Merge unifies the IDs for iMessage based on the contacts in your address book

At tonight's JailbreakCon a new tweak interestingly named Go, having the role of unifying the IDs within the conversations made using the iMessage service. Normally, each conversation via iMessage is sorted according to the email/phone number used and if a contact has several identifiers, the Messages application will create a different chat for each identifier. The situation is of course unfortunate, but this is where Merge comes in, the tweak unifying all your messages in the Messages application according to the contact and not the ID to which you sent the message.

Merge improves Messages by combining all messages by contact instead of by address. Instead of each contact's phone number or email using its own conversation thread, Merge combines them all together and marks a line to show you which number or email is being used. Merge also offers a quick way to switch the address you are sending to. To change to a different address in a conversation, hold down the Contact button or contact icon on the iPad to choose another address to send to. Holding the contact's name down in the New Message composition view allows you to switch addresses as well.

If a contact has 3 identifiers for sending messages, Merge will display only one chat window for that contact in the Messages application, all messages sent on all identifiers being displayed in one place, in the same window. The tweak automatically organizes all your conversations, tells you to which identifier you send the messages each time and gives you the opportunity to choose the identifiers to which you send the messages. Basically, you can start a conversation using an email address as an identifier, but you can continue it using a phone number as an identifier, and the Messages application will group everything in a single chat window, so that you have a complete history of the conversations made with that contact.

The explanations are complicated, but the functionality is extremely useful, and Merge is to be launched today in Cydia at the price of $1.49, but it will only be compatible with iOS 5.x for now.
