Apple updates malware definitions for OS X

Yesterday we told you that a new type of malware could increase your mobile phone bill by forcing you to enter a phone number to install applications. Entering that phone number into a field in the malware app and pressing a button will send that phone number to the hackers who designed the software. Using that phone number, the hackers can subscribe you to phone services that charge you a monthly subscription until you discover what is happening.

When a user starts such an installer, they see the interface that imitates the installation wizard of a corresponding application. In order to continue the "installation" fraudsters ask that the victim enter their cellphone number into an appropriate field and then specify the code found in a reply SMS. By performing these actions the user agrees to the terms of a chargeable subscription and a fee will be debited from their mobile phone account on a regular basis.

To protect users, Apple has updated the malware definitions in OS X, the operating system warning users about the danger they are exposed to and recommending them to delete the application.
