The recent turmoil caused by Pod2G these days I convinced him Planetbeing, one of the hackers involved in the development of solutions by jailbreak, to confirm the fact that iOS 6.0.2 was untethered jailbroken. Although the hacker has a untethered jailbreak for iPhone 5 on that version of iOS, he is not yet ready for launch and this would be, according to him, illogical. He says that iOS 6.1 is to be released in the near future, and the release of a jailbreak solution now would lead to the destruction of several important exploits and there is a good chance that the jailbreak solution will only appear together with iOS 6.1, that is, probably somewhere around March.
Yeah, I'm not really sure what all the doom and gloom is about. The fact is, I have an untethered iOS 6.0.2 JB running on my iPhone 5 right now. The reasons it's not released are because 1. releasing it would burn an exploit we want to save for ourselves so we can always get in to look at new firmware and help JB in the future, 2. iOS 6.1 is coming very soon and will likely break a small part of it anyway, there's no point in sacrificing the many bugs it won't break. Anyway, where there are 4+ bugs (that it took to get this to work), there's gotta be one or two more so while jailbreaking is getting harder, reports of its death are highly exaggerated.
In short, the same story with the long development time and waiting for a new version of iOS. Although their arguments are as logical as possible, Apple can block a jailbreak solution for iOS 6.1 in a week, so we may quickly find ourselves in exactly the same situation after its release, but until another one we need a lot of patience .
