Here's Phillip Lüpke, the man who generated the 25 billionth iTunes Store download and won $10.000 from Apple

IERI (Yesterday) Apple announced the establishment of a new record in terms of the number of downloads generated by iTunes Store, 25 billion downloads being made by users. To mark the event, Apple decided to award an iTunes Gift Card worth $10.000 to the person who generated the 25 billionth download, and the German Phillip Lüpke was discovery. The German is a 22-year-old student, studying at a university in Hanover, and at first he believed that everything was just an attempt at deception, not being convinced that he was being called by Apple.

As a 22-year old student in Hanover, Germany, Phillip says he's never won anything in his life. Ever. When Apple reached out to him to tell him that he won €10,000, he figured it was all a joke. "At first I was in disbelief. But then I was very happy, laughed. I've gone to my university and told all my friends. It was a very nice day."

Unfortunately, Apple did not offer him a cash prize worth $10.000, but only an iTunes Gift Card that allows him to buy music, and maybe applications, from the iTunes Store, but that's about it. Apple has the habit of offering prizes of this kind when it sets important milestones, but it always takes care to offer Gift Cards and not products, money or vouchers to allow the winners to purchase its products.
