LG Display would have reduced by 90% the number of screens delivered to Apple due to the decrease in sales of iPad tablets

In January, LG Display would have delivered 90% fewer screens for the iPad, only 600.000 units being ordered by Apple, compared to the 6.000.000 it had ordered in the previous month. According according to "sources" inside Apple's partner factories, the popularity of the iPad Mini would have generated a decrease in sales of iPad tablets, contributing to this and an increase in demand for cheap tablets. Although the iPad Mini seems to be still selling very well, the iPad 4 does not seem to have the same popularity, even though it has been on the market for only a few months.

LG Display's panel shipments for the 9.7-inch iPad dropped to 600,000 units in January 2012, down from six million units in the previous month, according to industry sources. The sources said the drop is largely due to the growing popularity of the iPad mini as well as to increasing demand for low-priced tablets. Additionally, January is traditionally a slow period for panel shipments, added the observers.

Many expected that sales of iPad tablets would register a significant drop after the launch of the iPad Mini, this is happening and it will be interesting to see how Apple will react to increase sales of the product that revolutionized tablets.
