Many have wondered why Apple uses this name, and there is a story behind it. John appleseed is the name attributed to John Chapman, the man who planted the first apple seeds in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois. The same name was used by the second CEO of Apple, Mike Markkula, when he published programs for the Apple II.
