iOS is more vulnerable than Android to malware attacks

Although Apple claims that iOS is one of the most secure operating systems for mobile terminals, a study of those from Symantec aims to prove exactly the opposite. According to them, iOSis much more vulnerable than Android- against malware attacks, but hackers focus more on Android. The problem is of course the fact that on AndroidOS applications can be installed that are not found in Google Play, and this is where most of the documented attacks started last year by Symantec and other companies specialized in security.

Today, mobile vulnerabilities have little or no correlation to mobile malware. In fact, while Apple's iOS had the most documented vulnerabilities in 2012, there was only one threat created for the platform. Compare this to the Android OS; although only thirteen vulnerabilities were reported, it led all mobile operating systems in the amount of malware written for the platform. Vulnerabilities will likely become a factor in mobile malware, but today Android's market share, the openness of the platform, and the multiple distribution methods available to applications embedded with malware make it the go-to platform of malware authors.

There are more vulnerabilities documented for iOS than for Android OS, they have been repaired over time, but the App Store is a savior for users. Practically, thanks to the App Store, large-scale attacks were avoided, such as those directed against Android, despite the fact that several vulnerabilities were documented in iOS. Eastern Europe and Asia are the favorite places of those who attack mobile terminals with Android OS, in the future the attacks will increase, and iOS should remain as safe as before.
