Apple begins to offer a 2-year warranty for products sold in Belgium

After lawsuits filed in several countries si pressure from the European Commissioner for Justice, company Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), decided to extend the warranty terms for products sold in Belgium from 1 to 2 years, finally becoming legal. The company did not meet the EU legal provisions regarding the provision of product warranty, Apple offering a single year warranty instead of the 2 years imposed by the European Union. Apple, on the other hand, sold the Apple Care package to customers, which for almost €100 per year extended the warranty offered to the products by another year.

The company's attitude changed recently, it started to offer a 2-year warranty for products, even publishing a document to inform customers about this change. Belgium is the country where the main institutions of the European Union are based and considering the pressure placed on Apple, it was normal for the change to take place, but the same thing would happen in Germany, France or Portugal, tyears in which Apple has already been sued for non-compliance with Community legislation.

In the end, Apple will choose to comply with the law in the countries where it is decisively required to do so, but what happens to Romania? In our country, the stores authorized by Apple to sell its products only offer a one-year warranty for them, and this is inconsistent with Romanian and EU legislation. Who will force these traders to comply with the law? Most likely no one, considering that the institutions that should impose the laws are not interested.

UPDATED: Apple now offers the same type of warranty in France or Germany.
