Battery life is the main problem with iOS 7

use iOS 7 for a day and a half and during this whole period, besides crashes, resprings and other normal problems for a beta version, I can say that the main problem of the operating system is the battery autonomy. Since iOS 6.1.3 Vodafone, Orange and Cosmote have completely eliminated the possibility to deactivate the connectivity of 3G networks through a Carrier Bundle Update that allows us to access their networks LTE 4G. Practically now, no matter what we do, we cannot disable the 3G connectivity of the terminals, the only way they can connect to EDGE/GPRS is the lack of 3G signal in a certain area.

Yes, it is good to have high download speeds and the possibility to make HD voice calls, but unfortunately the constant use of 3G destroys the battery autonomy. In most houses in Romania, the 3G signal fluctuates constantly, these fluctuations are strongly felt in autonomy, and the weaker the signal, the more it fluctuates and the more the battery decreases. If we also add the fact that at night you have to leave the terminal connected to 3G under the same conditions, you end up staying with it glued to the socket all the time you have it at home.

Let's say that at home it wouldn't be a big problem, but when you leave home what happens? If in iOS 6.x I used to get about 1.5-2 days between charges, now I have to charge the terminal iPhone 5 every evening although I used it mainly at home connected to a Wi-Fi network. Fluctuations of the 3G signal in the background greatly reduce the autonomy of the battery and I am extremely curious to see how Apple will solve the problem, considering that everything depends on mobile phone operators and bad 3G networks.

Yes, it is true that this is a beta version of iOS 7, but I am extremely convinced that in the final version we will have the same useless toggle for LTE and the problem is that we will not be able to remove it.

  1. I don't know how you can't deactivate 3G as I also use an iPhone 5 and it appears to me to activate LTE but I have a problem that it only stays on "E"

  2. In a normal working day on iOS 6, I use the phone for 12-13 hours. Today with iOS 7 b1 I managed to use only 4 hours. So let's hope that the next beta is better..

  3. Also, for me, the battery lasts longer on ios 7 than on 6... on the other hand, the big problem is with the signal... I hope they make a cv about this :(

  4. iohone 5 jailbreak, some common sense stuff; I also have cable at work, because it doesn't last the whole working day, 8-9 hours plus on the way with the metro... all on ios6...

that's... naspa, tb necessarily let us deactivate the 3g

  5. Unlockit.co.nz
I use Apc carrier on ios 6.1.2 and it has a 3g LTE deactivation function...
Do you recommend ios7 on iph 5? Is dwd beta version worth it?

  6. Great, I'll test it to see how long it lasts if I see anything because I'm using WiFi almost all day, if not all the time. Another question, if wifi is activated and connected to the 3G internet, does it eat battery?

  7. I have iphone 5, ios 7, Orange subscriber and I can deactivate cellular data (3g) and LTE. Likewise on ios 6.1.4.

And the battery seems to last longer than on the 6.1.4, already used for a day and I still have 59%.

  8. I'm hoping for a jailbreak that will solve this problem with 3G, anyway I really don't understand why apple doesn't give us the opportunity to choose the network we want to be on. I have an ip 5 and I keep it 90% on EDGE and when I want to go online I activate 3G, so it seems the most correct.

  9. absolutely no difference in the battery on the ip5. I wiped the phone yesterday when I installed ios7 and today I used it the same as with ios6. absolutely no difference in autonomy. removed from charging in the morning at 0830 and now at 2205 it still has 36%, only on 3G.

  10. I never disable 3G, it's much better with it activated...
as long as it lasts me a day, no problems, why should I do this, anyway I get home in the evening :)))))))))))))
and if anyone is interested, I use it quite a lot and not only for phone calls, I also have some applications that I use daily for work and fb, tango, mess, samd, plus youtube and chrome 😀 ……how long will it last :))))))) under the conditions mentioned above, you can't ask for more....
when I use navigon I put it on charge 😀, I think you know that GPS breaks the battery in ten pieces :P...I don't charge it when I only use coyote without navigon.

  11. It's not 3G itself that consumes the battery, but the fact that the phone is in dual mode, 3G + GSM. This has been said 1000 times. This is stupid, from my point of view, that you cannot disable GSM. Basically, it's like driving two cars in parallel, one that knows how to go on the highway and the other only on country roads. Obviously, you have to put gas in both. 3G is obviously a newer and more optimized technology in terms of energy consumption.
On the other hand, the 3G signal does not "fluctuate constantly" in all homes and on all networks, let's be serious. And even if it were, as long as the phone is connected to Wi-Fi, it only listens to the cellular network, so the consumption is not significant.

Battery autonomy problems come from the following reasons:

    1. As I said, the fact that the phone must work with two (even 3, if we count LTE) networks in parallel
    2. Large and colorful screens and our tendency to "button" the device non-stop. Don't tell me you'd play on a Nokia 1100 the same way as a smartphone, I won't believe you
    3. Operating systems and applications that are increasingly complex and, possibly, poorly optimized
    4. The VERY outdated concept of batteries

Don't forget, however, that iOS brings more things that will obviously consume current. Plus it's beta.

  12. I have an iPhone 5 with iOS 7 and I haven't had problems restarting or blocking or other miracles. I have experienced some crashes on youtube. Otherwise quite stable. I think the battery lasts me less, but it's subjective because lately I've been riding it all the time!

  13. For me it lasted 24' in which I used it 6'10", so I can declare myself satisfied with the autonomy of the battery.. On 6.1.4 I don't even think of going over 5'10".

  14. I have 4s decoded with gevey on vodafone Romania (and the operator shows vf nl 14.5) and I don't have a button to deactivate 3g 🙁, which means that tel is always on 3g (of course it also fluctuates automatically on edge when there is no signal) but I would very much like to have a 3g button 🙁

  15. i5's battery lasted 24 hours. I removed the percentage display of the battery. Now I reach 1 day and a half almost 2 with permanent 3g + wifi activated.
    zaone, try it too

  16. They did one thing exceptionally, at the office inside I have a 3g signal from all the crap at vodafone and with ios 7 instead of staying on 3g uselessly with a dash it switches relatively quickly and stays on gprs almost all the time. With ios 6, there was a line on 3g and most of the time I had the phone "closed". For me it is a major improvement and the battery is almost the same as before, small differences but I use it more now 🙂

  17. I don't know what to say, but for me if I disable 3G (from Settings > General > Cellular > Off) I can no longer connect to the Net - "You are not connected to the Internet" is the message. What suits me.
Well, that's in the case where I also disable WiFi or I don't have a signal in the area.

Disconnecting from 3G does not work for you. that you installed something or it works for me because mine is taken from the States and is not fooled by the local operators?

  18. @Olimpiu: It means that you don't know what functionality those buttons over there have. The LTE button disables LTE connectivity, the button above it disables the Internet connection. If 3G/LTE disappears from your bar, this does not mean that you have disconnected from the respective network, but only that you have closed the mobile internet connection.

  19. On the 4th it doesn't really feel like that... I didn't even use the internet on my mobile but the idea was that it is known that 3g eats up a lot of battery... Since yesterday morning with 30 minutes of wifi, 1 hour of calls and a few application tests I have arrived from 90% to 48%.. I say it is reasonable.. On the other 4, with 6.1.3, under the same conditions to which 20 minutes of hotspot are added, I went from 100% to 66% in approx. 12 o'clock...

  20. Hello, I have a problem with my iPhone 5 ios 7. When I call *100# to see the recharge options, it calls me directly and then hangs up automatically. Basically it doesn't work, does anyone have a solution?
