Apple used Vertu employees to produce iPhones with screens protected by sapphire glass

A few months ago, the first rumors appeared that suggested the idea that Apple could replace Gorilla Glass with sapphire for protecting the screens of iDevices, sapphire which at that time was presented as a more resistant and better substitute. In the meantime those from Corning proved that this is not true, but although Apple uses sapphire to protect the camera lenses of the iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch terminals, some believe that the same material could be used to protect the screens. Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, this will not happen, the company Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), already testing the possible use of sapphire screens in iDevices, using Vertu employees for this.

Several years ago, those from Apple hired Vertu employees, a company that produces luxury phones with screens protected using sapphire glass, but the projects initiated by those from Cupertino were ultimately closed. It seems that the material was not suitable for mass production in the quantities that Apple needed at the time, so Gorilla Glass was still used to protect the screens. At the moment, it is unlikely that the iPhone 5S will have a screen protected by a glass made of sapphire, but the possible fingerprint reader could have such protection.
