An Apple partner producing the iPhone 5C is accused of violating labor laws in China, not paying overtime worth millions of dollars

Jabil Circuit is a partner Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC),, apparently owned by an American company, which is accused by a Chinese NGO as violating Chinese labor legislation. According to a report published today, the company does not pay employees overtime worked in the factory, practically keeping millions of dollars in their accounts without any rights. Moreover, employees work 11 hours a day to produce terminals iPhone 5C, they are not properly prepared before entering the production line, they are discriminated against in the hiring process and not only that.

Among the infringements uncovered by CLW include millions of dollars in unpaid overtime wages; over 100 hours of monthly mandatory overtime, three times in excess of legal limits; more than 11 hours of standing work every day with no rest outside of 30-minute meal breaks; illegally inadequate pre-work training; hiring discrimination; and more.

After Foxconn and Pegatron, this is the third Apple partner that is accused of not treating its employees fairly and the problems are not exactly new. In China there are too many companies that proceed in this way, and the Chinese authorities do not seem to do much to solve the problems, people agreeing to work in these conditions because of the poverty in certain areas of the country. Although Apple boasts that it fines its partners who do not respect their employees and do not treat them properly, Jabil Circuit has not yet been brought into discussion by those from Cupertino.

For Apple, problems of this kind are quite big because they affect its image, and this is reflected in the price of shares on the American stock exchange.
