This year the application stores will generate as much money as in the last 3 years combined

App stores are becoming more and more popular lately, and a recent study reveals that this year app stores will generate as much money as they did in the last 3 years combined. The ones from IHS provide the data and it seems that no less than 15.5 billion dollars will be spent by users in these application stores, the amount being enormous. The figure regarding the total number of downloads is just as high, almost 90 billion being downloaded for all application stores by mobile terminals.

Global consumer spend will reach $15.5 billion (£9.7 billion) by the end of this year, according to an IHS report, which is more than the combined total for 2010, 2011 and 2012. Almost 90 billion smartphone and tablet apps will be downloaded this year, which is almost double last year's total of 49 billion. Apple and Google are the leading app providers in almost all countries, accounting for more than 85 percent of global spend. Gaming apps account for the vast majority of revenues, with Candy Crush, Clash of Clans and Hay Day taking the lead.

Naturally, App Store si Google Play generates 85% of the total revenue of application stores, App Storebeing the "king". Games are at the top of the applications that generate the most money and of course freemium applications generate more money than paid ones. 80% of the developers' total revenues are generated by freemium applications, and in total we are talking about the increase in popularity of this monetization model, most recently launched applications containing it.
