A new iPhone explodes in Beijing

After the tablet iPad that caught fire in a Vodafone store in Australia, today we have a story involving a terminal iPhone 3GS ce it exploded in Beijing. The iPhone terminal was neither charged nor used when it exploded, the owner leaving it on a bedside table after the last use. The device had been inactive for 2 years, but a month later its owner reactivated it, but only used it a few times after working hours and for short periods of time. The reason for the explosion is currently unknown, but an employee of the Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), assumes that the battery could be to blame, the same component underlying many incidents over time.

An iPhone 3GS that was neither being charged nor in the middle of a telephone call suddenly exploded in Beijing's Changping district on Nov. 13. The owner, surnamed Ma, bought the smartphone in late 2009 and used it for two years until Apple released the iPhone 4. He did not use the 3GS again until a month ago when he needed another phone for his job. Ma said that during the past month he left the iPhone 3GS at home and he only used it from time to time when he returned home from work. The smartphone was on a nightstand beside his bed when it suddenly exploded into pieces on Nov. 13. I found the phone had split open on one side and the broken pieces were still warm. His SIM card remained intact, slightly blackened.

The terminal casing cracked on one side and several pieces broke off from it, but the SIM drawer remained intact, although it was blackened most likely due to the battery explosion. After describing the final state of the terminal, it seems that its battery swelled so much that it cracked the case and probably eliminated part of the liquid inside, the same thing happens in almost all cases where batteries generate problems like this . Having said that, you have to be very careful with old iPhones, because it seems that there is always a chance for them to generate problems of this kind.
