WhatsApp Messenger is more popular than Facebook Messenger when it comes to social messaging

WhatsApp Messenger is currently probably the most used text messaging application in the world, and according to a new study it has become even more popular than Facebook when it comes to social messaging. The study was unrolled on 3800 smartphone owners from 5 countries around the world, and 44% of respondents use the application WhatsApp Messenger for text messaging, while only 35% use the application Facebook Messenger for the same task. Although none of the two services has a competitor in its category, applications such as WeChat, BBM, Twitter or Skype are starting to become more and more used in various regions of the globe, but none of them will succeed in dethroning WhatsApp in the near future Messenger.

Leaving aside the two applications, the study also covers some details about the impact that voice messages have on phone calls over SMS/Emails. As you can already see from the graph, most users prefer to send more messages daily than to make phone calls or send SMS/Emails, and this evolution is perfectly normal for the world in which we live. In the future, it is expected that social messaging will attract more and more users and will substantially reduce the profit that mobile operators manage to obtain from SMS or phone calls, and WhatsApp Messenger and Facebook will be top of the list of applications that will be used most frequently.
