OS X vs Windows – user upgrade trends

Macs will never have a larger market share than PCs running Windows, but there is a segment where Mac owners outnumber PC owners. Windows. We are talking about the tendency to upgrade to the latest version of the operating system, Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), convincing 4 times more customers than Microsoft to upgrade to the latest version a OS X. According to those from Computerworld, from 2011 until now Microsoft convinced only 11.6% of its customers to install Windows 7 or 8, while in the case Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), the percentage is 41.6%.

We are talking about a 30 percent difference calculated in favor of those from Apple and at a glance it seems that the updates offered by Apple for OS X and Macs would be more attractive than those offered by Microsoft. The problem is that Apple has offered these updates at very low prices, or even for free since last year, while Microsoft demands money and modifies the operating system so much that old PCs can no longer run it properly.

Explanations can be found for this very large difference and however we look at things, Apple will always have a much too small user base to make a viable comparison.

  1. The biggest factor is that Maveriks is now FREE. Which will more than certainly compel Microsoft to make it free if not this year, more than likely next year. Mac will easily take over everyone, because Sony and LG have withdrawn from the PC market and I think that others will follow.

  2. @Sorin Sony still makes and will continue to make laptops. The vast majority of new PCs bought with windows are custom builds, almost no one prefers to buy PCs sold by big campaigns anymore because they are expensive and have inferior components for their price of one custom build.
As for Mac, it will never beat Windows if it doesn't allow you to install it on any computer. Because no matter how much Apple wants to, at those prices, it will never be able to attract the poorer part that cannot afford a Mac. Look, the cheapest Mac is the Mac Mini, which costs 3000 le0 in Romania. With $3000 you can get a better computer.

  4. if windows were free, see how all PC users would upgrade. but you don't really feel like buying a new windows every 2 years, and by the way, windows is not a very cheap OS.

  5. I have 20 years of PC use and especially Windows, I now do photo/video/audio/web editing, programming, and PC service, thousands of computers have passed through my hands and I've had them for 2 years opened my eyes with the osx. Now I have 2 PCs (intel and amd) that I work on, with osx and an original osx personal mbp, for the rest, nas and servers of different linux distributions (free nas, xpenology). I no longer have a PC with win distribution on it, on a sg computer I have a virtual machine with win7 that I leave at the disposal of clients. The outcome ? I don't bother with my computers anymore, even though I pass hundreds of sticks, emails, virus files through them every day. Automatic updates to the programs I have. They don't get stuck and I can always count on them. I had friends who told me that osx is cabbage, you can't find programs and it's complicated. I haven't had to do a single reset in 2 years. I work with the same programs as before with small differences, but I got rid of the chaos created by windows. POINT. For me, osx is the base.

  6. I have been working as a computer professional for 20 years. For 2 years, OSx has changed my life for the better and I don't want to go back to windows.

  7. Of course, on Linux and OSX you got rid of viruses from Windows. At one point I also wanted to give up Windows in favor of Ubuntu. They passed me by quickly, I realized that I'm not the hipster of the block...
