Appellancy is a tweak initially available in beta version and released last evening in a final version in Cydia, it implements a facial recognition system for unlocking an iPhone or an iPad tablet. The tweak uses the front camera of our terminals to record images of the face of any person chosen by us to unlock the terminals, scanning the face having to be done from several angles for the best possible accuracy. After scanning, the tweak can be used immediately and recognizes any person's face in about a second, being as fast as the system touch ID.

Because Appellancy uses the camera, it will have an effect on the battery life. However, Appellancy only uses the camera when it needs to, which minimizes the effect on the battery, so battery usage should be almost unnoticeable. Yes, facial recognition is somewhat inherently insecure. A picture could follow it. However, what makes Appellancy so much more secure is that it, by default, includes a database entry of random faces to populate a deny entry. This causes the Appellant to deny almost any face except yours. By enhancing this database and the facial recognition methods in the future it will become even more secure.

Appellancy it works based on a system similar to the one used for Touch ID, it needs a set security code and has the same interface, but it allows the authorization of a much larger number of people. The interesting part of this system lies in the fact that it has implemented an artificial intelligence algorithm that is able to learn as it recognizes girls in order to be as safe as possible. Appellancy is available for $2 in Cydia's BigBoss repo.
