The iPhone 6 with a 5.5-inch screen could have a high final price because of the sapphire glass panels

For iPhone 6 it is speculated that Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), will give up the panels Gorilla Glass for protecting the screen and will use new ones sapphire glass panels which should be much more resistant to scratches. If in case iPhone 6 with 4.7 inch screen the cost of implementing this component is not extremely high, in the case of the version with 5.5 inch screen it is estimated that the final price could be up to 50% higher than that of iPhone 5S. Specifically, the use of these new panels from sapphire glass could increase the final price of iPhone 6 with up to $280, Apple being able to decide to stop manufacturing the device.

These latest reports suggest that the sapphire screen costs around 1743 yuan (or $280), which would raise the final cost of the device to about 8000 yuan (or $1285) – at least in China. At the moment, the 16 GB iPhone 5S costs 5288 yuan in China ($850), whereas the beefier 64 GB variant is retailed at the price of 6888 yuan (or $1106).

According to the latest information, the high price of manufacturing this type of panels would prevent Apple from producing iPhone 6 with 5.5 inch screen in high quantities, at least at the beginning. Although Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), they would probably try to produce tens of millions of units of the iPhone 6 with a 5.5-inch screen for the launch of this device, the high production price could delay the launch of this terminal by up to a few years.
