iPhone 6 – the new thin screens generate big production problems for Apple's partners

iPhone 6 will be available in two models, one with 4.7 inch screen and one with 5.5 inch screen, both components being thinner than the screens used for iPhone 5S si iPhone 5C. To make screens thinner, the company Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), intended to use only one module for the screen illumination, but this change it turned out not to be viable, so Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), had to stop the screen manufacturing process in June.

Two supply chain sources said display panel production suffered a setback after the backlight that helps illuminate the screen had to be revised, putting screen assembly on hold for part of June and July. One said Apple, aiming for the thinnest phone possible, initially wanted to cut back to a single layer of backlight film, instead of the standard two layers, for the 4.7-inch screen, which went into mass production ahead of the 5.5-inch version .

The American company then asked its partners to produce the screens with two lighting modules, so the entire production for June and July was postponed to August. At the moment the partners Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), which produce iPhone 6 screens I maintain that the production process is active at normal parameters, but of course that a limited number of screens can still be produced for iPhone 6 launch.

But the new configuration was not bright enough and the backlight was sent back to the drawing board to fit in the extra layer, costing precious time and temporarily idling some screen assembly operations, the source said. Output is now back on track and suppliers are working flat-out to make up for lost time, the supply chain sources added.

No one knows if this delay of more than a month in the initiation of the mass production process is for iPhone 6 screens it will affect the release or availability in large quantities, but the important thing is that Apple has solved its problems. So far I have found out that LG Display will make most of the iPhone 6 screens in its factories, but Japan Display, Innolux or Samsung are also contracted.
