Tim Cook: Apple Pay has more users than all US mobile payment systems combined

Apple Pay is the first mobile payment system developed by Apple and launched this month, with Tim Cook saying last night that it has more users than all mobile payment systems in the US combined. The claim was made in an interview given at a conference held in the US, Tim Cook confirming that over 1 million activations took place in the first 3 days of availability, the figure being higher than all other services US mobile payments.

Tim Cook continued his interview by claiming that Apple Pay is a system that protects user privacy because it does not record detailed information about transactions, with Apple not knowing what a user bought and where. In the US more than 220.000 stores are compatible with Apple Pay thanks to POS that can interconnect via NFC, recently a coalition of American retailers banning mobile payments through this technology in their own stores in an attempt to boycott Apple Pay.
