Apple: Siri is not a danger to drivers

Apple CarPlay Siri

Just a few weeks ago, a study carried out in the USA revealed that Siri is a danger for drivers, despite the fact that Apple allows its use in the car using voice commands and the hands-free system of some cars compatible with the system. The study tested 6 hands-free systems for using Siri in cars, the drivers being connected to sensors that measured their heart rate to detect the level of stress, but also a multitude of other sensors, the conclusion of the whole study being that using Siri in steering wheel distracts drivers and increases their stress level.

Apple claims that Siri is not a danger to drivers

Although this is not the first study which supports this is the first to test various hands-free systems of cars that are compatible with Siri, but the Apple company was not satisfied with the test results. According to those from Apple, the university that ran the test did not do it in a correct way because it did not check the new CarPlay system implemented only in certain cars launched this year. Apple claims that its CarPlay is specially designed to facilitate the interaction of drivers with Siri through voice commands, being specially created and optimized to offer the best experience of using Siri in the car.

Even the best of the tested systems, Toyota's Entune, scored a 1.7 "cognitive distraction ranking," the study found, compared to a 1 level for listening to the radio. The worst of the tested in-dash systems, Chevy's MyLink, scored a 3.7. Worst of all, the researchers concluded, was Apple's Siri, which came in at a frustration/distraction level of 4.

Despite Apple's claims, the study revealed that Siri generates a level of stress that scored 4 out of 5, so we are talking about a very big problem, which Apple defends by saying that the CarPlay system is the most efficient. The reality is that no matter what system you use, when Siri doesn't understand what you say or writes wrong messages, you have to look from the road to the phone or the car console to make the necessary changes.
