WiTricity is a technology awarded at CES 2015 in the category of the best innovations, it being thought in the idea of easing the work of charging our terminals by eliminating the need to connect them to a cable. Unlike old technologies that used magnetic induction charging, WiTricity charges mobile terminals through magnetic resonance even at distances of several meters.

Using a magnetic resonance field, the WiTricity system is able to charge compatible mobile terminals almost anywhere in our home, even when we hold them in our hands and use them. This approach to the problem is completely different from everything that exists on the market, most wireless charging solutions require placing a terminal on a charging pad, the difference compared to charging with a cable being non-existent.

WiTricity allows charging without this obligation, its charging pads can be placed under a desk or a carpet to charge everything on it, or near it a few meters away. The interesting part is that WiTricity has the necessary power to charge mobile terminals including through the walls of a house, so you could charge your terminals from one room to another.

WiTricity – wireless charging in Macs

According to the manufacturers of the technology, WiTricity it is able to charge mobile terminals located at a maximum distance of 5 meters from its charging pad, so theoretically at home you would have no problems with it. In this idea, WiTricity will be integrated into Intel Skylake processors during this year, and the first ultrabooks with wireless charging will be launched on the market by December.

The interesting part is that Apple will adopt Skylake processors sooner or later and this could bring WiTricity wireless charging even to its MacBooks. Although those from Apple do not collaborate with WiTricity and have separate patents for similar technologies, this does not mean that we will not see a wireless charging system for Macs from them.
