Phil Schiller, for those of you who don't know, is the senior vice president of the marketing division within Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC),, he dealing with the promotion of the company's products all over the world. Skeptical about the success it could have Google Glass, in 2012 Schiller said the following about Google: I can't believe they think a normal person could ever wear something like that.
Schiller's statement was made in an e-mail conversation with a photographer, and it was only published today on the Internet for all users. Although Schiller did not make similar statements publicly, it is clear that he and probably many within Apple did not believe that Google Glass would ever be a product that could be successful on a large scale.
In the email sent to Schiller, the first image in this article, with Google CEO Sergey Brin wearing Google Glass, was compared to one in which the actor Steve Martin wore a pair of comic glasses in a movie released many years ago. Based on this comparison, Phil Schiller made a statement that proved to be true in light of the fact that few people are interested in Google Glass.
Of course, this lack of interest is based on the very high price requested by Google for its product, few people being willing to pay $1500 for a pair of glasses with a camera and a not very great interface. Google is preparing the launch of Google Glass 2, but it is unlikely that the price will drop far enough to motivate people to buy it.
