Pawn Storm – a dangerous new malware for the iOS platform

Pawn Storm

Pawn Storm is a new malware designed to attack the platform iOS, being able to steal pictures, contacts, text messages and many other information from our terminals without much effort. Identified by the security company Trend Micro Right XAgent, the malware must be manually installed by users in terminals for infection, it also works on terminals without jailbreak. The malware uses the system Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), for installing applications using developer accounts, so the user must repeatedly accept the installation of profiles for the malware application, being able to cancel the process at any time.

Pawn Storm not as dangerous as other malware released before it, not only due to the existence of the complex installation process, but also due to the fact that in iOS 8 he is semi-useless. If in iOS 7 it works by itself and restarts itself after closing the terminals, in iOS 8 it seems that things don't work quite so simply. In the latest versions of iOS, it is necessary to reopen the application with malware every time after closing the terminals so that the data can be stolen, so the malware is not as effective.

Because of these "obstacles", those from Trend Micro are of the opinion that Pawn Storm was created before the release of iOS 7, so if you have iOS 8 you don't have to worry too much about him.
