Apple would intend to buy a Boeing satellite

Apple has been turning its attention to new "horizons" lately, and after launching a product in a completely new category, the American company would be interested to buy a communications satellite manufactured by Boeing. Facebook and Google would be on the list of companies with which Apple competes for the acquisition of this satellite and it seems that the discussions are at an early stage, so we could be talking about something that Apple will not achieve in the end.

Those from Boeing have not officially confirmed the interest of any of the companies, but the vice president of the development division for the business segment stated that at least the three companies mentioned above would be interested to buy the satellite. The purpose of the purchase would be to expand internet coverage in multiple geographic areas around the globe, the Boeing satellite being able to offer them broadband access for fast data transfer in locations where internet access is low or non-existent.

"The real key to being able to do these types of things is ultra high-throughput capabilities, where we're looking at providing gigabytes, terrabytes, pedabytes of capability," Simpson told Reuters after a panel at the Satellite 2015 conference.

However, a company like Apple would most likely be interested in using such a satellite to improve its global mapping system, but for these objectives there are already solutions that involve renting existing satellites. Regardless of what Apple's plans are regarding the acquisition of a possible satellite, those from Boeing expect an agreement to be concluded by the end of the year and we will certainly hear additional information about the intentions of those from Cupertino.
