Apple inspired the new stormtroopers in Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Star Wars The Force Awakens stormtroopersStar Wars: The Force Awakens is one of the most anticipated films of 2015 and believe it or not, the company Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), inspired to a certain extent the way the new stormtroopers look in the movie. Michael Kaplan is the man who created the costumes of the new stormtroopers for the film and in order to create something worth remembering, he was inspired by the designs created by Jony Ive and his team for various Apple products.

The costumes for Star Wars: The Force Awakens were created in London by Kaplan and before starting the designer asked himself a very simple question: what would the Apple company do? From here on, Kaplan's inspiration led to the creation of the uniforms you see in the image above and the public will decide if they are good enough for such an important film.

Q: Did you invent some kind of fashion back-story in your head to explain how the look of this galaxy might have evolved?

A: Maybe subconsciously, but with the stormtroopers it was more of a simplification, almost like, "What would Apple do?" JJ wanted them to look like stormtroopers at a glance but also be different enough to kind of wow people and get them excited about the new design.

Separate from the stormtrooper suits, director JJ Abrams says that Jony Ive's thinking inspired him when he created the new lightsabers for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He claims that in creating the design of the swords he thought not to make perfect objects, but to create them with enough small flaws to suggest the idea that they are real and not created on a computer especially for the film.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be released in December of this year, so we will probably find out a lot of interesting details about it by then.
