The iOS 9 keyboard becomes a touchpad, has a shortcut bar and new animations

iOS 9 keyboardKeyboard iOS 9 was modified by the Apple company to give us a much better experience during use, iPad tablets having the biggest changes for it so far. More precisely, the Apple company is trying to make users more productive by offering completely new options for controlling the iOS 9 keyboard, they can use new types of gestures, but can also control new buttons at the same time.

In the following we will talk about: Shorcut Bar, cursor control, connecting third-party keyboards and animations.

Shortcut Bar

The iOS 9 keyboard has a Shortcut Bar on the iPad, that is, above the keys we will now see not only the QuickType mode of predictive writing, but also a series of new buttons that allow us to manipulate the texts in the applications much more easily.

Using these buttons we can select, cut or paste any texts in just a few seconds, separately being available options for the quick introduction of multimedia content or for formatting texts with bold, italics or underline.

Bold, italicize, or underline — even copy and Easter - with just a couple of taps from your keyboard. The Shortcut Bar can also be customized for third-party apps, so the tools you need are always right where you need them.

The iPhone 6 Plus has had these buttons available during use in landscape, tilted mode for some time, and now iPad tablets have the same thing.

Keyboard cursor control

iOS 9 touchpad keyboard

The iOS 9 keyboard turns into a touchpad on the iPad, and this is because using two fingers we can move the cursor quickly on the screen by simply dragging our fingers over the keys of the virtual keyboard, as you can see in the image above.

Control the cursor on your iPad by simply moving two fingers anywhere on the screen, including over the keyboard, to select, edit, and move text.

After touching the iOS 9 keyboard with two fingers, it will automatically enter the touchpad mode to allow a much smoother and faster control of the cursor on the screen to provide the possibility to format texts faster.

This function is only available for iPad tablets, although it would be very useful for iPhone terminals as well.

Connecting third-party keyboards

Connecting third-party keyboards to iOS 9 on the iPad becomes much easier now, Apple also allows the use of shortcuts to quickly perform various tasks for which we should touch the tablet screen.

Although some keyboards already allowed this in the past, Apple now allows the establishment of shortcuts and key combinations, so that we can switch from one application to another, navigate through menus or interact in various ways with applications using only the keyboard.

Use keyboard shortcuts to perform even more commands on your iPad — like switching between apps or bringing up Search with a wireless keyboard. And interact with your apps using their own built-in, custom shortcuts. Just press and hold a key like Command, Option, or Control to see shortcuts in any app.

Keyboard animations

As we told you last night, the iOS 9 keyboard has a new way of showing us when we write in lowercase or uppercase letters, it displays all lowercase letters when we write in this mode and all uppercase letters when the shift key is activated.

The change is one that requires you to get used to it over time, but it gives you the feeling that you are part of something new.
