Apple is developing a gesture control system for iPhone and iPad

Gesture controlApple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), develop a gesture control system for iOS, the details of the technology under development in Cupertino being revealed thanks to a patent sent for registration by Apple to the US Patent and Trademark Office.

According to Apple's patents, the American company intends to use multiple sensors positioned around the screen of mobile terminals to record movements in front of them and control the interface of the iOS operating system.

Apple recognizes the fact that there are already devices on the market that allow the control of mobile terminals or computers using gestures, but states that they do not offer a user experience that good, so it has a different approach.

In order to be able to better record gestures in order to control the interface of a mobile terminal or a computer, Apple intends to position the sensors in such a way that they record the movements at an angle as large as possible to compensate for possible errors.

A method of compensating for sensors of a sensing panel, the method comprising: measuring capacitance at the sensors, the capacitance being indicative of an object hovering over the sensing panel; determining a sensor location having the measurement of the hovering object; and adjusting the measurement based on the determined sensor location so as to compensate for sensitivity variation in the sensors.

The idea of controlling a mobile terminal or a computer with gestures is not new, as the Apple company also stated, but we all know that Apple does not develop something unless it is sure that it can offer a better experience than its competitors.

If Apple were to release an iPhone with a gesture control system, which would work great, then we would talk about a new "hit" for the Apple company, a multitude of users being interested in such a control system.

Although Samsung terminals already offer this kind of control method, they haven't proven to be that popular mainly because they don't work properly, so we can only hope that Apple will offer something better.
