Apple is among the top companies sued for intellectual theft

Apple processesApple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), is in the top of the companies sued for intellectual theft, being the favorite "target" of companies that buy various patents and try to find ones that are apparently used in iDevice/Macs, suing Apple.

In the image above you can see the number of intellectual theft lawsuits filed against some American companies and those from Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), is in the first position with 25 lawsuits filed in 2015 alone, followed by Actavis and Amazon with 21 each.

90% of the filed lawsuits are based on companies that do not use their patents to produce something, but only to sue various other companies, so the so-called "patent trolls" buy patents hoping that they will get rich from lawsuits.

Texas is the favorite state of companies trying to obtain money unjustifiably from the richest companies on the planet, and that's because the judges there generally give profit because of this type of "patent trolls", even though they don't use their patents for anything other than lawsuits.

The number of lawsuits of this kind increased by 11% compared to last year and it seems that the American senate is working on a new legislation that could prevent this type of companies from easily obtaining money from lawsuits based on invention patents.

There is a chance that the senate will require a company to be able to sue another competitor only if the technology protected by a patent is actually used in a product launched on the market and could affect its sales.

Otherwise, the limitation of the right of use does not bring any benefit to the general consumers, so the technology is not developed for the future, so nobody gains anything here, but it remains to be seen what the Americans will decide to do.
