According to a local publication, Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), sells iPhone 5S in India at the price of 370 dollars, almost 300 dollars cheaper than the price of 665 dollars charged in the USA in September, the discount being an unusually large one for the Apple company.
India is the third largest market in terms of smartphone sales, being surpassed only by China and the USA, and Apple is currently not even in the top 5 smartphone sellers in India, despite its popularity its terminals.
If in China there are enough Chinese people able to buy iPhones at high prices, in India the situation is completely different, so Apple had to take drastic measures to increase its sales, a 300 dollar price reduction The iPhone 5S will definitely have an extremely positive impact on sales.
To drive volumes in India, Apple will need to keep focus on older iPhone generations, explaining that older generations will cater to the country's large midrange smartphone market. Kaur added that there's a "limited" amount of penetration the company can achieve by exclusively selling in the premium price segment.
Considering that the products imported into India have much higher sales taxes than those produced locally and considering that Apple cannot set up stores like in the West, those from Cupertino are forced to become inventive in order to increase sales.
