A 12-year-old girl is under criminal investigation because of some emoji characters

Believe it or not, the emoji characters are at the basis of many lawsuits in the US in which the authorities take these signs far too seriously and take young people to the American courts to try to prove that they are a threat to the public.

The most ridiculous of them involves a 12-year-old girl who was accused of threatening her school with a terrorist attack, the authorities interpreting a series of emoji characters too strictly ??? published by her together with a message available on the Instagram network.

More precisely, the girl published the messages Killing?, meet me in the library Tuesday ???, and the police thought that she could endanger the integrity of the people who are in the library of the school where the 12-year-old girl is enrolled, so they obtained a search warrant and then questioned the child.

The authorities are going to defend their case in court and a judge will have to decide if those emoji characters published by the girl on Instagram represent a real threat and she should be convicted for the imprudence of using them to talk about the school she attends.

The search warrant states the girl admitted to authorities she posted the messages on Instagram and did it under the name of another student. She was charged with threatening the school and computer harassment. A spokesman for Fairfax County schools said the alleged threat was deemed "not credible."

The representatives of the school say that the girl's statements have no credibility in the idea of supporting the police theory according to which they would have been the precursor of a terrorist attack, but exaggerations of this kind have also been found in other cases that have come before the justice system in the USA.

Having said that, if you happen to travel to the US, be careful what kind of emoji characters you use.
