An Apple vice president talks about the importance of iOS security

Craig Federighi he is the charismatic senior vice president of the division that develops the software for the Cupertino products, and last night a famous American publication published an article written by him about the importance of security iOS and fight with FBI.

Basically, Federighi reiterated everything that Apple has said so far, namely that securing user data is extremely important and that compressing this security for just one iPhone is an extremely dangerous precedent.

Moreover, this vulnerability will be exploited not only by the FBI to retrieve data, but also by various criminals or hackers, the access port in iOS not being sufficiently protected by the Apple company.

Federighi also ridicules a statement made by a representative of the Ministry of Justice who said that the security system of iOS 7 was perfect, but it can be broken extremely easily by hackers, but the return to it will not take place.

To get around Apple's safeguards, the FBI wants us to create a backdoor in the form of special software that bypasses passcode protections, intentionally creating a vulnerability that would let the government force its way into an iPhone. Once created, this software — which law enforcement has conceded it wants to apply to many iPhones — would become a weakness that hackers and criminals could use to wreak havoc on the privacy and personal safety of us all.

Finally, Federighi claims that he became a software engineer because he believed that technology can improve the lives of users all over the world, and that software has unlimited potential to solve problems around the world, but also that these requirements of the FBI are unacceptable.

I became an engineer because I believe in the power of technology to enrich our lives. Great software has seemingly limitless potential to solve human problems — and it can spread around the world in the blink of an eye. Malicious code moves just as quickly, and when software is created for the wrong reason, it has a huge and growing capacity to harm millions of people.
