Analysts estimate moderate sales of the Apple Watch in 2016

Apple Watch is one of the successful products of the Apple company and we saw this during the last year, the smartwatch managing to climb to the first position in the top of smartphone sales after only one full fiscal quarter of availability.

The following fiscal quarters kept it in the top and brought it to the top 3 best-selling wearables in 2015, even though it arrived on the market in the second part of April, so it lost 3 and a half months of sales in compared to many competitors he beat.

For the year 2016 IDC estimates that the Apple Watch will capture 49.4% of the smartwatch market with sales of 14 million units, the figure being 2.5 million units higher than the one estimated for the 8 months of availability in 2015.

Although in 2016, Apple Watch alone will capture half of the smartwatch market, by 2020 its market share would decrease to 37.6%, this in the conditions that sales of smart watches would increase to 237.1 million units that year compared to 110 million units in 2016.

Apple's watchOS is likely to see some slowdown in the early part of 2016 as anticipation builds for the second generation device. However, with newer hardware and an evolving ecosystem, Apple will remain the smartwatch leader through the majority of the forecast.

Basically the Apple Watch is a successful product now, but IDC estimates that it will have the fate of the iPad in the coming years and will gradually lose a good part of the market share as the popularity of smartwatches will grow exponentially along with the sales of competing products.
