The FBI admits that it cannot unlock other iPhones except the iPhone 5C

More than a week ago, the FBI announced that it unlocked an iPhone used by a terrorist and this without Apple offering help at any time, but that unlocking method can only be used for the iPhone 5C, not for other models of Apple's iPhone terminals.

Several American analysts speculated about the usefulness of the iPhone unlocking solution used by the FBI, and the American federal agency clarified things by saying that terminals with Touch ID cannot be exploited by this method, as they are much better secured.

The FBI paid several tens of thousands of dollars to gain access to this method of unlocking iPhones, and it is speculated that it would involve cloning the NAND Flash storage medium to avoid a security measure that completely erases the data from the terminal.

The FBI has not confirmed the information regarding the method used and the director of the agency claims that for now no decision has been made regarding informing Apple regarding the method used, but in the end it could do so even if Apple blocks the vulnerability that is its basis.

The FBI director also said the purchased tool worked only on a "narrow slice of phones" that does not include the newest Apple models, or the 5S. "We tell Apple, then they're going to fix it, then we're back where we started from," he said. "We may end up there, we just haven't decided yet."

The fight between the FBI and Apple will continue regardless of whether the vulnerability used will be disclosed or not, and this is because it is very difficult to keep such important information secret for a long time.
