iDevice.ro : LG G5 – first impressions

LG G5 reached iDevice.ro last week thanks to the program Orange Smartphone Tester, and today I present to you my first impressions about the new smartphone of the Korean company, it has enormous potential to become a very popular smartphone.

Design and screen

The LG G5 has a 5.3-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels and 554 pixels per inch, the front panel being surrounded by an aluminum casing that gives you the feeling that you are holding a solid smartphone in your hand that is not easy to drop, the feeling being a bit more soothing than in the case of using a glass smartphone.

Those from LG use branding for the front panel with a logo placed in the lower part, the rest of the front panel being dominated by the screen without any metal element in the upper part, the front camera and the speaker being surrounded by a glass panel.

Regarding the case, we find the name of the terminal in the lower part, while in the upper part we have Home button with fingerprint reader and double camera which has an LED flash capable of illuminating any kind of area well enough for recording photos.

Unlike other Android smartphones, The LG G5 has no physical buttons in the front panel, but virtual buttons that are not as useful, the Home button being located in the case, and this is quite difficult to get used to, especially if you have been using terminals with the Home button located in the front panel for years.

As for the screen, it renders vivid and clear images, but in strong sunlight it is not as well lit as an iPhone or a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, and this is surprising considering that we are talking about an IPS screen LCD.

Performance and camera

LG G5 works with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chip that has a quad-core processor consisting of two Kryo cores clocked at 2.15 GHz and two cores clocked at 1.6 GHz, 4 GB RAM completing the top specifications for the Korean terminal.

In terms of speed, the LG G5 works flawlessly, but I haven't made any comparison with the iPhone 6S, although I have a vague impression that it will do better than the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge in a direct test, the interface not being as loaded.

The dual camera of the LG G5 is really impressive, it consists of a 16-megapixel image sensor with f/1.8 and an 8-megapixel one with f/2.4, laser autofocus and 3-axis optical image stabilization are also available .

The LG G5 can record photos in wide and standard format, the wide ones capturing a larger portion of the space around us and you will understand from the pictures below how important it is to offer such a function for users.

From the point of view of quality, I can say that the pictures have a better quality than those recorded with the iPhone 6S, but of course I am subjective here and you will decide for yourself if this is true or not, when I publish the full review for terminal.

Before concluding, I must also mention the fact that the LG G5 has a special feature that I like, namely the possibility to add new functions through a special plug & play port located at the base of the case.

You can see that the standard version has the battery included, but separately users can choose between: a camera called LG Cam Plus or an external Bang & Olufsen speaker called LG Hi-Fi Plus, both having an external battery.

Moreover, LG allows partners to create dedicated accessories for this port, and with their help the smartphone can be a real success.
