Geohotor George Hotz, is one of the most famous hackers of recent years, launching multiple solutions jailbreak and unlock for iPhone terminals or iPad tablets, but being sued by Playstation for launching a jailbreak solution for its consoles.
Leaving the legal issues behind, geohot thought of developing a system for autonomous cars, he managed to obtain financing of several million dollars to create a system that can be installed on a car and can guide it on the roads without the intervention of the driver.
In Romanian, geohot made a system that allows a car to drive itself on public roads, and during the past day he officially announced that he will put it up for sale at the price of 1000 dollars a piece, the video clip below showing - it in operation.
The company Comma.ai, founded by geohot, has a number of employees who develop this system, and to make it even better, the hacker announced the launch of an application called Chffr which aims to collect data from drivers regarding the trips made on public roads.
The application for iOS and Android is designed to be opened in users' smartphones while they are driving on public roads, taking images from the terminals' camera and analyzing the way they drive and react to traffic conditions.
Basically, through Chffr geohot he wants to see how drivers react when they approach a moving or stationary car, how they react when other drivers make sudden maneuvers in front of them, cut off their path, when pedestrians jump onto the road, etc., all this data allowing the improvement of the final product.
At the moment, geohot's system looks like the one in the image above, it being mounted above the car's registration plate and being glued with adhesive tape, the final product being able to be mounted in another position and in completely different conditions.
A product like this has to solve a lot of problems and it certainly won't be 100% accurate in the first version, but someone has to be the first on the market with something like this, and geohot has the ability to develop extremely good products and improve them.
