Mobile phone manufacturers release too many products annually

Smartphone manufacturers launch too many products annually, according to a Greenpeace study, consumers being of the opinion that too many new mobile terminals are launched annually, and here reference is made not only to those from Samsung, but also to the Apple company, which this year will release 3 iPhone models.

The study was carried out on over 6000 people from the USA, Mexico, Russia, Germany, China and South Korea, countries where there are a lot of smartphone owners, who stated that they would like all these manufacturers to helps more in the smartphone recycling process, instead of launching many new models every year.

According to this study, people in these countries have, on average, three mobile phones at home that are not used, and half of them think that mobile phone manufacturers release too many products annually, which is completely true, if only we look only at Samsung.

A third of the participants bought a new phone in the last year because the unit they owned broke or was lost, a few more looked for a better performing model, but half of them stated that they would not change their phones very often if they did not they would have to do it, for various reasons.

Consumers want manufacturers to release fewer mobile phone models and do more to help them recycle. The recycling rate of mobile phones is particularly low compared to other electronic goods, and people don't know if they can contact recycling companies, the government or the brand. Most don't know how to wipe data, but that's the first thing certified recycling should provide.

The main problem in this whole equation is the profit, the profit made by the manufacturers in the sale of mobile phones, and if we look at Apple, we see that it went from a single model a year, to three models a year in order to maintain and grow in future profit, and this trend will probably force it to make bigger changes.

Apple wanted in 2016 to release four iPhone models, but he gave up on one of them just two months before the release.
