Apple and Samsung collect all the profits of the smartphone industry

Apple and Samsung once again collected all the profits of the smartphone industry in the second fiscal quarter of 2016, which was easy to predict. For several years now, Apple and Samsung have managed to collect all the profit made by the smartphone manufacturers, and the situation has little chance of changing too soon.

According to an analysis made for the receipts from the smartphone market, Apple collected in Q2 2016 75% of the profit of the entire smartphone industry, with operational receipts of 9.128 billion dollars. The percentage is 9% lower than the one collected in the same period last year, but also 16% lower than the one recorded in the same period of 2015.

On the other hand, Samsung received 31% of the profit of the entire smartphone industry, with operating receipts of 3.703 billion dollars, that is, over a third of what Apple received. For Samsung this is the largest part of the total profit collected in recent years, in Q2 2015 Samsung collected only 19% of the total profit.

For Apple, the situation is very difficult, those from Cupertino losing over 2.6 billion dollars in operational receipts compared to the same period last year, the difference compared to Q1 2016 being 3.7 billion. Samsung earned instead 1.3 billion dollars compared to T2 2015 and only 400 million dollars compared to the first fiscal quarter of 2016.

In total, Apple and Samsung are credited with winning 106% of the profit of the entire industry of smartphone manufacturers, and that for some they lost money. Specifically, Microsoft Blackberry, LG and HTC lost money producing smartphones, but the situation is not new for any of these companies, unfortunately.

Overall, the operating income of smartphone manufacturers decreased compared to the same period last year, despite the fact that income increased. Unfortunately for most smartphone manufacturers, their business strategies are bankrupt, with Apple and Samsung still remaining the only profitable companies.
