Apple is talking to Intel about the iPhone processor

Apple and Intel are in advanced discussions regarding a collaboration to manufacture iPhone and iPad processors in the future.

Complying with everything that everyone suspected, the company Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), would already be in advanced discussions with Apple to manufacture the processors of future iDevices. Intel licensed from ARM the technology that allows it to produce processors for mobile terminals, and many people said that a collaboration with Apple is planned.

This collaboration could start in less than 2 years according to an Asian publication, Apple and Intel already being discussed for its initiation. Those from Intel would produce the future A12 chip for Apple, but it would only be about orders for some of the components, not all.

TSMC will produce alone all the A10 chips that will arrive in iPhone 7, and next year the Taiwanese will have exclusivity for the A11 chip as well. Starting from 2018, things are going to change, those from Apple wanting to collaborate with Intel in terms of manufacturing the chips that will end up in iDevices.

For Apple, the collaboration with Intel could bring a substantial reduction in prices for the manufacture of this important component for the iPhone or iPad. More than that, it would also mean a technological evolution, since Intel uses a 10nm manufacturing process in its factories.

"TSMC could have competition from 2018 or 2019, because Intel will receive orders from Apple until then. Intel has initiated discussions with Apple and intends to steal one or two important customers of TSMC. There is no rivalry between Apple and Intel, so it is very likely that Apple will give it some orders. The move is consistent with the US government's initiative to encourage American companies to make more products on American soil."

Until entering into a possible collaboration with the Apple company regarding the manufacture of chips dedicated to iDevices, Intel delivers the iPhone 7 modem. From this point, the collaboration between the two companies would expand, but it remains to be seen when and how, things being already advanced.
