UltraSpeed 4G+ is the pompous name given by Vodafone a future service that will offer customers mobile internet at speeds of up to 1 Gbps. Today, the people from Vodafone presented a test in which the speed that UltraSpeed 4G+ can reach is demonstrated, the people from Orange presented a similar test a few weeks ago.
Practically, through the presentation of UltraSpeed 4G+, the people from Vodafone entered the "hour" of the launch of mobile internet services with speeds of up to 1 Gbps for mobile terminals. Of course, at the moment there is no smartphone or tablet capable of reaching such speeds, but it is good to know that they will come, someday.
Even though Vodafone has now presented UltraSpeed 4G+ and claims that in the future we will have speeds of up to 1 Gbps, that moment is still far away. Those from Vodafone will have to make massive investments in equipment to offer such a service, so this will need several years of development.
UltraSpeed 4G+ – Vodafone announces 1 Gbps mobile internet
You can see in the image below that to launch UltraSpeed 4G+, Vodafone will use carrier aggregation 4×4 MIMO and 5 separate LTE frequencies. The final result is a download of 1 Gbps measured in a computer that was connected to a prototype 4G+ Huawei 5 CA modem, so this product is not even offered.
The current equipment used by Vodafone, or even by Orange, to demonstrate speeds similar to those of UltraSpeed 4G+ are based on complex and very large equipment. These equipment will have to be improved in the following years, and at some point they will be ready to reach the market, but it will take a long time until then.
Practically Vodafone showed us today that UltraSpeed 4G+ can offer mobile internet speeds of 1 Gbps, but for now everything is presented with the idea of showing that it is possible, but not that any customer will benefit from such services too soon.
