I don't think there is a person who doesn't use emoticons when they are in a smartphone conversation. It's a funny and creative way to communicate, if we can call it that.
If you look at list of factors of the Unicode Consortium, you notice an impressive number of rules for the request to include a new emoji, and not every request has a cause. It may seem absurd, but there are many who request to receive a new emoticon on their smartphone.
On the emojirequest website you will see a whole list of emoticons and next to them how many requests there are. These "simulations" are made to realize a perspective of how the emoji will look. This approach considering offering a framework through which companies can develop their own language through emoticons.
When an emoticon collects a large number of votes, it will not yet be added to the next Unicode version, because there are other steps that must be followed. The design of the emoticon itself must have increased popularity and be approved by the Unicode Consortium.
