Tim Cook talks about iPhone 7 without audio port and augmented reality

In an interview given to ABC News, Tim Cook talks about the iPhone 7 without an audio port, AirPods and augmented reality.

During this day, Tim Cook, the president of Apple, was present in the ABC News studio to discuss iPhone 7, AirPods and the future of Apple. In the video below you can see him discussing the iPhone 7 without an audio port and the new AirPods headphones, which not so many people love now.

Tim Cook claims that wireless is the future, and when Apple decided that this is where it should go, it took the decisions that will "take" it in that direction as quickly as possible. The president of Apple stated that the audio port takes up too much space in the iPhone 7 case and that there are more important technologies that users should have.

In this idea, the audio port of the iPhone 7 was removed to allow the implementation of a larger battery in the terminal, but also to implement a set of stereo speakers. Keeping that port would not, in theory, have allowed Apple to find room for these technologies, although other manufacturers always find room in the case for such things.

"Wireless is the future. When you decide on what the future is, you want to get there as soon as you can. Why is that important for the consumer? Well, that plug, that jack, takes up a lot of space in the phone, and there's a lot more important things we can provide for the consumer than that jack. We can provide a larger battery. The stereo speakers I mentioned — those were also enabled because the jack is not there anymore."

Going further, Tim Cook said that augmented reality is more important than virtual reality, at least in his opinion and those of Apple. He claims that augmented reality is more important because it allows people to be present in what they are doing with its help, unlike virtual reality.

He claims that augmented reality allows a much easier interaction between people when it is used, even if one of the people is not next to the other. This is in contrast to virtual reality, which requires us to enter a world separate from the real one and to control everything with our eyes covered by the screens on which we see the information.

"There's virtual reality and there's augmented reality — both of these are incredibly interesting. But my own view is that augmented reality is the larger of the two, probably by far, because this gives the capability for both of us to sit and be very present, talking to each other, but also have other things — visually — for both of us to see. Maybe it's something we're talking about, maybe it's someone else here who's not here present but who can be made to appear to be present."

Finally, Tim Cook said that the new AirPods don't fall out of his ears during use, he uses them for various finesse exercises in the gym, or even while running. He did not say that AirPods are magical and have a great design, even though everyone tends to contradict him, at least in this regard.
