Parents sued by their daughter for posting photos on Facebook

Posting more or less embarrassing photos of friends on Facebook, without their consent, can have ugly consequences.

Thus, an 18-year-old girl from Carinthia, Austria, is suing her parents because in the last 7 years they posted a series of embarrassing and indecent photos on Facebook, without her permission.

The teenager's lawyer claims that these parents shared around 500 pictures of the young woman over time, while she was doing absolutely everything, from changing her diaper to going to the potty.

The lawyer says that if he can prove that the photos "violated her rights to a private life", she could win the case, which is scheduled for November.

They knew no shame and no limit – and didn't care whether it was a picture of me sitting on the toilet or lying naked in my lap – every stage was photographed and then made public

Her parents refused her offer to remove the pictures from Facebook, her father claiming that since he took the photos, he owns them and has the right to use them publicly.

While we do not yet know the outcome of the case, this is a reminder that the laws governing social media are incomplete but constantly evolving.
