Apple Maps has hit the web

Just 4 years after it was officially launched, the Apple Maps platform finally has pages accessible from the browser, as has been the case for a very long time with Google Maps. For now, only certain points of interest and geographical landmarks are available for access via web pages, the design being similar to that of iOS 10.

In iOS or macOS, links on web pages can direct to phone call applications, to the Maps application, or to the email application, or even to the browser. Those from Apple are trying to copy the functionality offered by Google Maps, and this in the conditions where the Apple platform has been criticized for a long time for the lack of a web version.

Apple does not index web pages such as this for Apple Maps on its website, or in Google Search, they cannot be generated directly from macOS Sierra or iOS. However, the Safari Suggestions system can redirect the user to an Apple Maps web page, but only from macOS Sierra, and that link can then be accessed by anyone.

After accessing a page like this, you can use the border on the top right to navigate to any location on the planet. That border has a zoom in/out function, and with it and by using the mouse you can access any geographic area in Apple Maps, although things are limited to that for now, without localization or other functions.
