Almost 1 year away from the presentation of Apple TV 4, the American FCC authorities, which certify all electronic products sold in the USA, have revealed a new model of Apple TV. We are talking about a product that has the same dimensions as the current Apple TV 4, but comes with built-in NFC and has a product code A1844, which is not present in Apple's product list.
Apart from this information and the image below, there are no other details that could reveal what kind of product Apple has sent for certification to the FCC at this time. Apple has not announced any conference for this fall, and another Apple TV has not been announced by any rumor so far, so we could be talking about an internal Apple product.
However, if we are talking about a new model of Apple TV, the presence of that NFC chip, which exists in Apple products only to facilitate the use of Apple Pay, is very interesting. Considering that Apple TV is meant to be used only in the home, it would be unusual for Apple to offer Apple Pay support for it, but anything is possible.
Having said that, either Apple is preparing a new model of Apple TV with an interesting functionality ready for NFC, or we are talking about who knows what other product that has another utility.
