iPhone 8 - this is how the in-screen fingerprint reader will be implemented

iPhone 8 will have an ultrasonic fingerprint reader implemented in its screen to allow the removal of the Home button.

A variety of rumors that have appeared so far suggest that iPhone 8 it will have a fingerprint reader implemented under the screen, instead of the current position in the front panel. The Apple company has not confirmed or denied these rumors, but those from Xiaomi have launched a smartphone that offers such technology for their customers.

We are talking about Xiaomi MI5S, a smartphone that has an ultrasonic fingerprint reader, it is not implemented right under the screen, but it is much more accurate than the current fingerprint readers. In the video clip below you can see how this fingerprint reader works, and a similar technology should be used including in the iPhone 8 by Apple.

Although Xiaomi MI5S has a fingerprint reader located under the screen, in the front panel, the company still made a special area in the front panel to place the finger in order to scan the fingerprint. That area was created specifically for users to know where to put their finger for fingerprint scanning, but under that portion there is no reader, everything being done with an ultrasonic wave technology.

This is how the iPhone 8 will scan fingerprints using ultrasonic waves

Contrary to what Apple would intend to do, Xiaomi implemented the fingerprint reader under the front panel of the smartphone, but not under the screen. Apple intends to implement the ultrasonic scanner under the screen iPhone 7, so the screen could cover the entire front panel of our terminals.

The Apple company wants to have iPhone terminals whose front panel is completely dominated by the screen, without physical buttons, sensors or cameras. The use of this technology for ultrasonic waves is a first step towards achieving its goal, and those from Xiaomi show us for the first time how everything would work.

The iPhone 8 should be released in 2018 and apart from an ultrasonic fingerprint reader mounted under the screen, it would also come with an outwardly curved OLED screen, the Galaxy Edge bezel, wireless charging and more.
