Romania: 75 Mbps fixed internet speed, 27 Mbps on mobile

The average fixed internet speed in Romania was 75 Mbps in 2016, while the average mobile internet speed was 27 Mbps, both better than in 2015.

Today the ANCOM published the results of a study done through its own website that allows the measurement of Internet speeds in Romania. We are talking about the netographic website, which is not used by too many Romanians, the majority preferring Speedtest, but the government must also boast of an unused project.

Returning to the topic, ANCOM claims that the average download speed in Romania through a fixed internet connection was 75 Mbps in 2016, an increase compared to 2015. The average download speed for wired internet reaches 114.46 Mbps, while the average speed for wireless internet it is only 46.05 Mbps, so we are talking about a very big discrepancy.

In the case of the average download speed for the mobile internet, this was 27 Mbps in Romania, thanks to the high-speed 4G networks in our country. Of course, Orange and Vodafone have raised the average, because Telekom and Digi do not have the same fast networks, not even close, pulling down the entire ranking of the country.

The problem with this study is that it is based on tens of times fewer tests than in the case of Speedtest, so the reality is completely different from the one presented by the authorities. In the absence of statistics from Speedtest, it remains for you to decide for yourself if you trust this information or not.

Average download speeds in Romania, 75 Mbps for fixed internet and 27 Mbps for mobile internet

"Netograf.ro statistics for the first half of this year show that fixed and mobile Internet users in Romania enjoyed increasing download speeds compared to 2015, if we refer to the averages recorded at the national level. The increases can be correlated, on the one hand, with the expansion of the modernization of fixed communication networks, which allow ever higher transfer speeds, and, on the other hand, with the process of national implementation of advanced techniques and technologies mobile networks, simultaneously with the spread of mobile terminals that can support higher data transfer speeds", said Florin Dragomir, Head of the Technical Regulation Department in ANCOM, during the EuroCloud Forum 2016 event.
ANCOM performs quarterly, through the application Netograf.ro, statistics on the quality of fixed and mobile internet service in Romania, including average data download speeds, as experienced by each user who used the measurement application, separated by operator.
Tests performed on www.netograf.ro shows that in the first semester of 2016, Romanian users experienced real average speeds at the national level 27,72 Mbps for mobile internet data download (25,79 Mbps for indoor connections and 36,38 Mbps for outdoor connections), respectively 75,07 Mbps for fixed internet data download (114,46 Mbps for wired connections and 46,05 Mbps for wireless connections).
Comparative, ANCOM report on the quality of the internet access service for 2015 shows that users in Romania last year experienced average speeds of 19,22 Mbps download mobile internet data and 53,22 Mbps download data fixed internet last year.
