The Korean company chose this strategy to offer users who gave up on the Galaxy Note 7 some of the functions available only for the new smartphone launched in August.

We are talking, for example, about the functions that Samsung has implemented for Always On Display, but unfortunately not all of them work as they should, due to the lack of support for the stylus in the Galaxy S7.
Samsung offers these functions only partially, in order not to give users the idea that all its smartphones can enjoy the same functions. It is not known how many functions from the Galaxy Note 7 software will be ported by Samsung to the Galaxy S7, but probably many will be available to make the old smartphones much more attractive.
Considering that the Galaxy S7 will be the main top smartphone in the next few months, Samsung must make it very attractive for customers.
