18 months in prison for the hacker who stole nude photos from iCloud

At the beginning of September last year, the Internet was flooded with thousands of pictures not of Hollywood stars, most of them being stolen from their iCloud accounts. Behind the phishing attack, because iCloud was not hacked, a hacker was found who has now been sentenced to a total of 18 months in prison.

The hacker reached a deal with prosecutors to receive a lesser sentence than he should have, and thus ends one of the biggest scandals of 2015. Ryan Collins is the name of the hacker who gained access to the iCloud accounts of Hollywood stars , he managed to trick them into giving him the passwords, or data that would allow him to reset them.

Collins was indicted in March, and although he admitted his guilt during the criminal investigation, it seems that no evidence was found to link him directly to the pictures published on the Internet. Despite this, the prosecutors probably found other evidence of the commission of some crimes, and thus an agreement was reached regarding his guilt.

The FBI prosecuted two other hackers for similar but separate crimes, and in both cases they admitted their guilt in order to receive a lighter sentence. Some Hollywood stars announced last year that they would demand compensation from the hackers, but so far nothing has happened in this regard.
