Apple patents a foldable iPhone

The Apple company has patented the idea of a foldable iPhone, a smartphone that, although it has little chance of reaching the market now, is extremely interesting.

The Apple company has crazy ideas regarding the evolution of the iPhone, and the latest of them involves the development of a foldable and extremely interesting iPhone. We are talking about a patent that was recently registered for the Apple company, describing a method by which an iPhone can be produced whose case folds in two pieces.

The invention patent was filed on August 28 by Apple, so it is very recent, and those from Apple do not hide from making their intentions known. To make a foldable iPhone, the Apple company could use glass, ceramic, carbon fiber, aluminum or even plastic, the range of proposed materials being extremely varied at this point.

However, to allow the folding of the case, Apple would intend to use a series of carbon fiber nanotubes, which can be bent together with the rest of the components. Of course, a foldable screen is also needed for the whole concept to be functional, and this is practically the main problem with ideas of this kind.

Apple patents a foldable iPhone

The interesting part is that Apple describes the possible use of parts that will take over the role of joints and allow the smartphone to be safely folded, something that would kind of destroy the whole idea. Although it is unlikely that Apple will use something like this, the imagination of the engineers in Cupertino shows us what kind of ideas there are regarding the future iPhone.

"Conductive carbon nanotube paths can form signal paths that are flexible and resistant to cracking. The carbon nanotube structures may be incorporated into signal cables such as flexible printed circuit cables, rigid printed circuit boards, printed circuits that include rigid portions with flexible tails (sometimes referred to as "rigid flex"), portions of display structures, portions of touch sensors such as capacitive touch sensor arrays for displays or track pads, camera structures, antenna structures, housing structures, internal device structures, electrical components, substrates, brackets, housing walls, other structures, or combinations of these structures."

Although there are minimal chances that a foldable iPhone will reach the market in the near future, the Apple company is not the first patent of this kind. I assume that in the future we will see others, but you should not expect a product of this kind too soon.
