Future MacBooks will have OLED screens

Apple is testing new MacBook models with OLED screens to improve battery life and image quality.

Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), is in a brave race to substantially reduce the energy consumption of MacBooks, and this will force it to use OLED screens in its laptops in the future. According to some information provided by an Asian source today, those from Cupertino intend to rely on OLED technology to be able to substantially reduce the energy consumption of MacBook.

According to some partners of the Apple company, those from Cupertino are currently testing various types of OLED screens for the MacBook. They have a variety of prototypes created and check to see which of them can offer the best autonomy with the OLED screens used, 2017 could be the year of the big change from this point of view.

Apart from the substantial reduction in energy consumption of a MacBook, OLED screens are also much thinner and would allow the additional reduction of the thickness of the laptop. More than that, they also have a much better brightness, but also more accurate colors, or shorter response times, so everyone wins from them.

At the moment it seems that Samsung produces the OLED screen of the Touch Bar in the new MacBook Pro, and those from Apple would like to expand the partnership in the future for larger screens. Apple is also testing OLED screens that could be used in iPhone terminals, so the collaboration between the companies could be much wider.

"Apple is currently looking into ways of using OLED panels for MacBooks and testing their performance. Apple is currently looking into using OLED rather than LCD for its MacBook's display along with iPhones."

Considering the long process of testing an OLED screen to see if it's appropriate to use it in a laptop, we may not see a Mac with such a component until 2018. Even so, at least we know that Apple is exploring new opportunities to improve both the autonomy of the MacBook battery and the quality of the screens.
